The Client:
It was 1937 when Rodolfo Squinzi founded Mapei – Materiali Ausiliari Per l’Edilizia e l’Industria (Auxiliary Materials for Building and Industry) in the outskirts of Milan – setting off on a path that would eventually make Mapei a multinational company, champions of Italian excellence all over the world.
The facts and figures now speak for themselves: three generations of entrepreneurs, business. Manufacturing operations on five continents and more than twenty product lines to cater for everything the building industry needs
The solution: Migration from the old ERP system to Microsoft Dynamics 365
Project summary
The purpose of the UK project was to migrate from the old ERP system to Microsoft Dynamics 365, a unified solution for all group companies. The primary goal was to establish standardized business processes. By configuring Dynamics 365 to align with these common processes, Mapei aims to ensure that all business entities within the group follow the same procedures. This shift toward uniform systems and processes is driven by the desire to simplify support and enhance operational efficiency. This project represents a significant step towards standardizing and streamlining operations across all companies within the Mapei group.
Before this transformation, despite producing similar products, various factories within the group often had distinct approaches to their operations. For instance, the manufacturing processes in the Croatian factory might have differed from those in the USA. The transition to standardized systems and processes aims to eliminate such disparities and create a cohesive global framework.
Main goals
- New company wide common ERP using Dynamics 365 Finance & SCM, replacing many different legacy ERPs
- Part of a global roll-out programme
The results
- Go live on time at the first attempt across multiple locations in the UK (Headquarters, warehousing)
- Elimination of bridging software, now using direct integration from Dynamics 365 to HMRC for VAT reporting in the UK (Making Tax Digital)
